Hello Gabby, thank you so much for doing this interview.
Thanks for having me.
It was great to see you at Wild Paths last year, what have you been up to since then?
Had such a great time, actually stepped in to play Wild Paths last minute. Was so so great.
Been up to quite a lot since then and recorded a brand new EP and completely changed my style and sound. Completely redesigned my music, which is really cool. Also moved to London with the band, so not living in Norwich anymore which is exciting.
Oh wow so much has happened in the last 12 months that's so awesome.
You always have so much energy on stage and put on an amazing performance. What inspires your music and performance?
Well I grew up listening to Florence and the Machine, Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club. I feel like those bands have such big energy on stage, I would go to their gigs, and go watch see them on stage and think damn these people are such great performers, I mean Florence is incredible performer. I wanted to be like that and be able to tell my music and my journey through my performance There's only so much you can give through you vocal ability or things you are saying and speaking. I feel by adding that energy and performance element it almost adds to it. I've always done musical theatre my whole entire life up until the age of 15 and I really wanted to add to that performance/theatrical element in which is really cool.
Those are main things that inspire me; the artists I grew up listening to, the gigs I went to, and being able to want to show the story through the performance.
What do you love the most about Wild Paths Festival?
Personally discovering so many new artists and bands and being able to support the local scene. All of the venues, I feel like it brings the city alive, brings Norwich together, I love the community it brings. It's such an awesome event that I'm super excited for this year.
Other than Wild Paths, where else do you like to play and why?
I love that I get to play Wild Paths. My dream is I would love to play Glastonbury. Ally Pally is also a goal. Up and coming goals before the reaching the big guns like that, I'm desperate to play Great Escape Festival, Dot to Dot Festival, they have similar vibes to Wild Paths and are so great for upcoming artists and doing the right things for the scene.
I'm sure those festivals would love to have you, I bet this time next year you will be fully booked over the summer.
How have you seen the music scene change over the years? Do you think it is more difficult now?
In terms of the social media element this has changed.
In terms of the scene it's better more than ever, especially in Norwich. It's scene you can easily jump on to and network and meet people and everyone is really friendly, which is really refreshing. Back 10 years ago it's was really difficult to get on to the scene where as now everyone is really welcoming and wants support each other and goes to each others gigs which is really special. Only thing I think is really difficult to navigate now is the social media element and growing a fan base off back of that.
Do you have a preshow ritual?
Big advocate of vocal warm ups, for me I'm kinda boring, I just sit in green room and have lots of tools I use to warm up. I also always have to go to the toilet beforehand, maybe TMI but your gals gotta go. I also try and spend as much time with band as possible before we go on and slay.
Personally never TMI and I 100% agree toilet before anything major very important.
Favourite drink at a festival?
Crisp cold pint of Jubel goes down easily before and after a gig.
What's coming up for you in the next year?
We have a headline show on 15th November at Voodoo Showroom. Then at the Art Centre on 5th February next year for our EP Lauch Party with new the EP, new merch and new singles.
Lots of exciting things ahead. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
