**Trigger warning - sexual abuse**

Tonight Alter-Nation were at out in support of Anti Fest Pest, the festival that should not need to happen but goes to show if anything does happen in our wonderful community we are out in force to support.

The festival was created due to awful incident which occurred in our music scene in Norwich. The brave actions of the survivor bought attention to a sadly not isolated occurrence. This lead to the immediate cancellation of the gig the was due to happen tonight.

Chicanes and The Lara Price Band stepped in to turn this situation into a positive night and Anti Pest Fest was born.

Tonight was about celebrating the bravery of survivors and raising money for our incredible local charity Sue Lambert Trust, who do so much to support survivors of sexual abuse.

I've worked closely with Sue Lambert Trust in the past supporting survivors myself, so I've seen 1st hand the incredible work they do and the difference it makes. Survivors having the space to talk through their trauma and process this is so vital and means they can start to heal. And, something I heard too many times, to truly hear and learn, it's not their fault. From an outsider perspective that might sound weird but most survivors blame themselves for what happened. Learning this isn't the case is a huge step to recovery.

I'm not going to lie, tonight was incredibly personal for me, this is not your normal review. Being a survivor myself I got tearful at times, especially when Kim from Sue Lambert Trust did her talk. But wow, so powerful and so wonderful to talk to.

Talking to all the bands tonight and their show of community and consolidatory in the face of such darkness goes to show the incredible scene we have in Norwich.

Beginning the evening The Jakkels, beautiful, harmonious vocals, mixed in with fun banter.
Delicate, thoughtful songs, many of which got the crowd swaying.
We were called a sweet, cute audience, what a fun, warm hug start to evening.

The Winonas were getting us ready to move and dance, encouraged to move forward so we could get closer to the stage.
This quirky and fun 3 piece were fast paced and supportive of each other and all of us.
Also being so obsessed with Winona Rider they wrote a song about her.
Being Nirvana fans too they had a great grunge style
Their last song was very personal and about struggles with mental health and reminding us all to reach out for support when we need it.

I will use the opportunity here to echo this and if you can't or don't feel able to speak to friends or family at a particular moment in time please remember there are ways to reach out by calling or texting:

Samaritans - Contact Us | Samaritans -116 123
Shout - Shout 85258 -  Text "SHOUT" to 85258

We next moved into The Lara Price band. They had brilliant jumping tunes, fast moving. This really got the crowd up and going with much dancing and clapping.
Lara and her band have recently experienced difficulties and the support of fellow bands and the community goes to show how we can really hold each other up.

Then the wonderful Chicanes, without Andrew from Chicanes this night would not have been possible.
They put on an incredible show.
The audience really gets into dancing.
There's appropriate themes against toxic masculinity.
And Andrew has a beautiful DIY logo of 'Fuck Pests' added to his guitar.

What a night, born from something dark but turned into how a community can join together to create, come together and raise funds to help those who really do need do support and love.

Fuck pests and if you have been moved to do so please donate here  - https://www.suelamberttrust.org/donate/
