Interview - Collapse the Sky - Upcoming Gig - 17th July

I'm very much looking to covering Collapse the Sky who are playing at the Brickmakers on July 17th in celebration of their 10th anniversary.

I caught up with the band for an interview ready for this milestone event:

How does it feel to be celebrating 10 years?

Very surreal! To look back and remember all the amazing things we have experienced as a band, is something to cherish deeply. We are extremely grateful to our fans and supporters, who have been on this ride with us since the beginning - 10 years man... wow!

How have you seen the music industry change over this time?

There has certainly been some changes, positives and negatives, but I will stick to talking about the positive examples for now! Technology and social media has impacted us all over the years and with that, artists have had to adapt and use these tools to their advantage. So, we noticed this and wanted to implement some of these skills into what we already do. Our fan base continues to grow which ultimately means more people hear our music which is what it's all about - so far, so good!

What have been your favourite moments over this time, any favourite shows?

There have been a tonne of great moments over the years, from releasing albums to playing up and down the country, but if I could narrow them down to one then it would have to be when we played Download Festival last year. It is our greatest moment to date, the festival itself is special to us and we could not be prouder of this achievement.

Do you have any particular rituals or things you like to do before a show?

No, nothing out of the ordinary, as boring as that might seem! 10 years ago we were a lot more carefree but these days, we tend to take care of ourselves and make sure we deliver the best show possible.

What influences your sound?

Our sound has evolved over the years to what it is now which takes influence from a wide range of sound worlds. We are blending big riffs with cinematic scoring elements to create an intense and atmospheric timbre. So musically we are not only influenced by metal bands, but film music as well.

Do you feel there's anything particular that has changed this over time?

With the evolution of the band's sound the songs are more meticulously composed with a lot of time spent trying to ensure our ideas have a unique edge to them. We have become very picky with what goes out and what makes the cut!

Where did you get your band name from?

It was incredibly difficult finding a name, simply because of how many bands there are. Collapse The Sky was suggested and matched the style of music that we were trying to achieve. We wanted something to sound big and mighty.

Your new song Welcome|Death is a powerful new track with a great video, what inspired this?

Welcome | Death is one of the more darker songs we've experimented with so wanted a video to match. We spent a lot of time filming various shots in local woods coming out of the winter period to try and capture a dead looking aesthetic to go with the darkness of the track.

What else is on the cards for you guys this year?

We have been working hard behind scenes on our next record so we are very excited to release more music this year! We also have some shows to play - your readers can check out our socials for all the relevant show info - very keen to start performing these new songs live! Last, and certainly not least, we have our special 10 year anniversary show which has been a lot of fun reviving songs from 'Seven Eyes'. Some of these songs we haven't played in years!
